Bathroom Gut Remodel with Subway Tile and Slate Floor in Rockville Centre, NY

This residential bathroom remodel in Rockville Centre, NY was a full tear-out and rebuild, not a light fixture swap. The room was opened up so the rough work could be handled first, then brought back through tile, fixtures, trim, paint, and final cleanup.

Bathroom jobs like this take tight sequencing. Once the old materials were removed, the rough plumbing and electrical prep had to be completed before the walls and finish surfaces could be closed in. After that, the tile layout, floor work, fixture locations, vanity area, toilet area, lighting, and trim all had to line up in a compact bathroom footprint.

Project Scope

  • Full bathroom demolition and gut-out
  • Rough plumbing prep before wall close-up
  • Electrical roughing before finish surfaces were installed
  • Framing and sheathing work where needed
  • Subway-style wall tile installation at the tub and shower area
  • Natural slate floor tile installation
  • Finished tub/shower area with shower fixtures, niche, and glass panel or door
  • Vanity, sink, faucet, toilet, and bathroom fixture installation
  • Trim work, grout work, painting, and final cleanup

Project Notes

The order of work mattered on this bathroom. Demo came first so the rough plumbing and electrical work could be handled without fighting around new tile, a new vanity, or finished trim. Once the room was open, the bathroom could be built back in the right order instead of patching around old conditions.

The tile phase took careful layout. Subway tile on the walls needs steady spacing, clean corners, and neat cuts around fixtures and edges. The slate floor also needed a controlled layout so the floor lines, threshold area, toilet position, and vanity area worked together without the room feeling crowded.

After the tile and grout work were complete, the finish items were set in place. That included the vanity and sink, toilet, shower fixtures, lighting, door and window trim, and paint. Final closeout included cleaning the work area and leaving the bathroom ready for normal use once the construction sequence was complete.

  1. How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom in massapequa?

I have a small bathroom with a tub that needs to be gutted. Can you tell me approximate cost?

    1. A small 3 piece bathroom gut remodel is around $9000 in labor on long island. materials will cost upwards of $4000. some assumption:

No major plumbing moves. all the rough plumbing to remain where it is

no major electrical. a heated floor will be substanially more expensive

you are using consumer grade materials (home depot) and no subway tile gallore. large format tile with some nooks and nice chair railing. half way tile outside the wet area.
