Basement Staircase Renovation in Huntington, NY

Stairs repair 2024 huntington

Basement Staircase Renovation in Huntington, NY

This basement staircase was part of a damp, unfinished lower-level space that needed a cleaner and more finished look. The old stair area felt rough and exposed, so the goal was to make it safer, neater, and more in line with the rest of the basement renovation.

Staircase work in older homes is rarely as simple as covering things up. The surrounding walls, framing, trim, stair parts, and basement conditions all have to be worked around carefully. On this job, the focus was on improving the look and function of the stair area without overbuilding it or turning it into something that did not fit the house.

The finished staircase gave the basement a more complete feel. Instead of looking like a leftover utility area, the stairs became part of the finished space.

Project Scope

  • Basement stair renovation
  • Staircase repair and finish work
  • Trim and detail work
  • Wall and surrounding area improvements
  • Coordination around existing basement conditions
  • Cleanup and final touch-ups

Project Notes

This staircase renovation took more than 50 labor hours to complete. Basement stairs can take more time than expected because every cut, trim piece, and finish detail has to work with the existing structure.

  1. i live in huntington. I have a similar staircase from my basement. Would like to remodel the staircase so that it has nice ballusters and a finished look. I want some nice trim and pullout storage under the stairs with some sheetrock walls surrounding it instead of the dirty stair look that we have been living with. What does something like that cost?

    1. You’re looking at around $6000 with materials to build a typical straight staircase, with trim, in oak treads, laquor finished, with simple pullout storage below or a small door to a small irregular under the stairs closet. Any floor repairs surrounding the stair case would be extra. This includes wood ballusters where possible but nothing over the top in terms of railings and trim.
